Ekern. Leora (26 JAN 1946)

The Hardies Creek Lutheran church, near Galesville, was the scene of a very pretty candlelight wedding ceremony at 8 o’clock Saturday evening, Jan. 26. when Miss Leora Ekern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin B. Ekern of Galesville, and Harvey Catlin, son of Mrs. Perl Catlin of Loyal, were joined in wedlock by the Rev. Selmer E. Vevang.

Gowned in a white satin brocade blouse, with white net over a satin skirt, and three-quarter length veil, and carrying white and pink carnations, the bride was given in marriage by her father. She was attended by Miss Ione Lee Wanek of Winona, Minn., as maid of honor, and Elaine Severson and Esther Simikrud of Galesville, as bridesmaids. Her twin cousins, Sonje Jean and Sandra Jane Wilhelm, of Onalaska were flower girls.

Misses Wanek and Severson were dressed in white jersey over satin, and Miss Simikrud wore a satin blouse and white net over satin skirt. They carried bouquets of pink carnations. The twins were dressed in gowns similar to that worn by the bride, and they carried sweet peas and pink carnation, tied with a yellow bow. The bride’s mother wore a dress of navy blue, with a corsage of yellow daffodils, for her daughters wedding.

Best man was Pfc. Alvin J. Ekern, brother of the bride, and the groomsmen and ushers were Robert Ekern, and other brother of the bride, and Russell Toppin, a cousin, all of Galesville.

Soloist was Spencer Toppin, a cousin of the bride, who sang "At Dawning" and "Oh Perfect Love." Pianists were Mrs. Ruth Anderson and Miss Helen Johnson.

Two showers preceded the wedding, one for the East Side ladies on Wednesday, Jan. 2, and one for about 150 guests on Friday, Jan. 4. A reception for over 100 persons was held in the church parlors following the services.

The bride graduated from the Galesville high school and the Eau Claire School of Beauty Culture. Since her graduation from the latter in August, 1945, she has been employed as a beautician in La Crosse. Mr. Catlin has been employed as a trucker out of La Crosse.

After a honeymoon spent visiting relatives and friends in Eau Claire and Loyal, they will make their future home in Wisconsin Rapids, where both will be employed.

The Loyal Tribune joins their many friends in wishing them a long and happy journey through life.
