Niemi, Lydia (1 MAY 1877 - 5 JUN 1953)

 

Mrs. Lydia Marie Niemi, 76, a resident of this community for the past 32 years, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wis. on Friday, June 5, 1953, at 12:25 a.m.  She had been in failing health for the past two years and death resulted from a cerebral hemorrhage suffered on May 25th.

 

Lydia Marie Aho was born on May 1, 1877, at Evigarvi, Waasanlaani, Finland and came to this country in 1903, settling in DeKalb, Ill., where she was united in marriage to John Arvid Niemi in 1904.  In 1913 they moved to Sheldon, Wis., living there until 1921, when they moved to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.).  She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in April 1938; an infant daughter, Elena, in 1908, and two sisters.

 

Left to mourn her passing are five children: two sons, Einar of Waukegan, Ill.; Arne of Owen, Wis.; three daughters, Mrs. Arne (Saima) Hukkala of Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Eino (Senia) Luoma of Withee, Wis., and Mrs. L. E. (Bertha) Bulgrin of Owen; nine grandchildren; one brother, Antti, in Finland, besides several nieces and nephews.  She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kind and generous nature and true Christian spirit.

 

Funeral services were held at the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Owen, of which she was a member, on Monday, June 8th, with Rev. H. T. Aukee officiating, and interment was made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers included Neal Laine, gus Sillampa, Wm. Kangas, Kayo Maki, Kauno Niemi and Solomon Laakso.  Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Neal Laine, Mrs. Pat Crowley, Mrs. Sophia Bjorn, Mrs. Selma Maki, Mrs. Kauno Niemi, Mrs. Onni Kangas, Mrs. Frank Luoma and Mrs. DuWayne Bulgrin; Vocalists were Mrs. Frank Luoma, Mrs. Kauno Niemi, Mrs. Wm. Kangas and Mrs. Onni Kangas, with Mrs. H. T. Aukee as organist.

 

Relatives and friends attended the services from Waukegan, Ill. and Wakefield, Mich., Ironwood, Mich., Sheldon, Wis., Medford, Wis. and Holcombe, Wis.
