Purgett, Janet (19 SEP 1953)

It was a beautiful day in Milwaukee on the 19th day of September, 1953 at a 4:00 p.m. ceremony in the Evangelical Congregational Church, 5168 N. 34th St., wedding vows were exchanged by Miss Janet Elaine Purgett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purgett, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and Otto Sauermilch, son of Mrs. Mary Sauermilch, 5351 N. 38th St., Milwaukee.

Miss Evelyn Sauermilch, sister of the groom, served as maid of honor.  She was attired in a pink strapless gown with full skirt of nylon tulle over taffeta with matching stole of lace and headband, and carried a bouquet of carnations.

Identically dressed in royal blue were Miss Patricia Eilbes, bridesmaid, and Diane Purgett, Junior bridesmaid.  The dresses were in ballerina length.

The bride approached the altar on the arm of her father dressed in a white staples gown, ballerina length, with full skirt of nylon tulle over taffeta with stole of nylon tulle.  Her fingertip lace edged veil was secured by a tiara.  She carried a bouquet of orchid with white stephanotis.

The groom and John Hutsteiner, Milwaukee, best man, and Frank Manning, usher, were attired in tuxedos with white coats.

Mahlon Purgett and Henry Sauer were ushers in the church.

After the ceremony the guests gathered at the Silver Spring Ballroom, 55 87 N. Green bay Ave., for the reception and wedding dance.  There were about 150 guests.

Guests included relatives and friends from Milwaukee, Manitowoc, Neillsville, Sheboygan and Owen, Wis.; Flint, Mich., and Chicago, Ill.
