Erich Joseph Kapfer was born on March 8, 1951 in Chippewa Falls, WI, the son of Erich K. and Marie E. (Stafen) Kapfer.  He was raised on the family farm south of Thorp, and received his education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1969.   After high school, Erich worked at Stewart’s Redville Dairy, in Greenwood, and then later at Blue Moon Cheese in Thorp.  He was united in marriage to Diane Wilson on May 19, 1973 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard.  They divorced in 1997.  He was most recently employed by Land O’Lakes, in Spencer, where he has been since 1987, and he also farmed and raised Highlander cattle.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed fishing in northern Minnesota, and spending his mornings "shooting the bull" with the Rock Dam coffee crew.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Erich J. Kapfer III of Thorp, Tanya (Matt) Potocnik of Withee, Tammy (Erik) Stinson of Owen, and Kevin (Dominique) Kapfer of Eau Claire; four grandchildren: Roy and Lilli Stinson, Kashton Erich Kapfer, and Derek Potocnik; three sisters: Marianne (Bernard) Mertens of Thorp, Pauline (David) Haas of Thorp, and Erika (Darwin) Mason of Stanley; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved "girls"; Kayla, Peanut, and Beauty.

Erich was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Erich J. Kapfer II, in infancy.
