Maahs, Kenneth O. (October 13, 1939 - October 18, 2009)

 

Kenneth O. Maahs, 70, originally from Little Chicago, Wisconsin died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 with his wife Karen at his side at their home in Eagle River, Wisconsin.


Ken was born in the town of Berlin, on October 13, 1939. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1948 and enrolled at UW Stout. At Stout, he was Freshmen Class President and President of Phi Sigma Epsilon.

 

He met Karen Johnson there and they graduated together in 1962 and were married that summer on June 23rd. They both started their careers teaching middle school in the Racine School system. Kenneth joined JI Case Company in 1965 and was eventually named Northwest Regional Manager, Drott Division in 1977 and moved to the Wausau area at that time. He purchased Galvin Tractor Company, a Case construction equipment dealership in located in Abbotsford, Wisconsin in 1980. While an independent dealer, he served as the President of the Case Dealership Council for one term. In 2001, he sold Galvin Tractor Company and eventually retired to Eagle River in 2003.


Ken was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, town of Hamburg and served as a parent advisor for the Luther League. He served as the President of the Friedenshain Cemetery Association, town of Berlin, for many years. He enjoyed farming, fishing and boating, snowmobiling, watching car races, and home restoration. Friends and family will miss Ken dearly and the fun and enjoyment that he brought to peoples lives.


Survivors include his wife Karen, Eagle River, son Michael (Maria), Wausau, son Christopher (Lisa), Wausau, sister Sandy (James) Fitzke, Eau Claire, sister Barbara (Gary) Yeast, Wausau, brother-in-law Stan (Robin) Johnson, Davis, California, grandchildren Alexandra, Katherine, Caroline, Sophia, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Henry Maahs all of Wausau; and other relatives. He is preceded in death by grandson Robert Kenneth Maahs.


Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am followed by the funeral service on Monday, October 26 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5030 State Hwy 70 West, in Eagle River.
