Buchholz, Alice Marie (Marriage - 10 July
a ceremony performed Saturday evening, July 10, at the Christie
Methodist Church, Alice Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Buchholz, Neillsville, became the bride of Gerald Robert Smith, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Smith of Neillsville.
double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Arthur Riley at a
seven o’clock candlelight service.
Baskets of white gladioli and candles decorated
the altar. Candles decorated the aisles. The pews were tied
with ribbons and sweet peas.
Mary Ann Smith was nuptial soloist, accompanied
by Miss Verna Schaefer at the organ.
bride, escorted to the flower-decked altar by her father, wore
imported Chantilly lace and nylon over satin, with a rounded yoke
effect and a small Peter Pan Chantilly lace collar. The dress
was complemented by short sleeves and a full length train of
Chantilly lace and nylon net. The lace formed points over the front
skirt and continued down as a train.
carried a white satin fan, centered with an orchid with pink
rosebuds radiating outward.
bride was attended by her sister, Martha Buchholz, as maid of
honor. She wore a white strapless dress with lace bodice and net
over taffeta skirt. The dress was complete with a short lace
jacket, having a mandarin collar.
bridesmaids were Viola Buchholz, Roberta Kurth and Eileen Buchholz,
who wore gowns identical to that of the maid of honor in green,
yellow and orchid respectively.
groom was attended by Gary Mills and Richard Buchholz as
groomsmen. Glenn Short and Arnold Buchholz ushered.
reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents for
approximately 90 guests.
wedding trip will be to points of interest en route to Portsmouth,
Va., where the groom is stationed with the navy, and where the
young people will be at home after July 24.
bride and groom are both graduates of the Neillsville High
School. Mrs. Smith has been employed in the Badger State
Telephone office and the groom expects to be with that organization
after the completion of his naval service.
Out of town guests attending the ceremony were: Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Bracken, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Moldenhauer, Tomah; Mrs. Minnie Krueger, Milwaukee; Shirley Magnuson, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leonhardt, Abbotsford, and Mrs. Alma May, Greenwood.
