Durst, James De Roy "Roy" (22 August 1882 - 19
James De Roy Durst was born near Pine Island,
Minn., on August 22, 1882, and died at the Neillsville Hospital
September 19, 1954,a t the age of 72 years and 29 days. He
suffered a stroke at his home on Thursday morning, September
the age of 15 years Mr. Durst came with his parents to the Town of
Foster near Fairchild. He was married on December 11, 1906,
to Janie Lightfoot. To this union 13 children were born -
Virgil and James of Milwaukee, Ethel (Mrs. Alvin Schutte) Eva (Mrs.
Wm. Kurasz), Vivian (Mrs. Henry Schutte) and Ivan, all of
Neillsville; Dorothy (Mrs. Rolla Sieg) Fairchild; Leone (Mrs. Edwin
Scholze) Humbird; Betty (Mrs. Walter Marg) Black River Falls; Ella
Jean (Mrs. Clarence Scholze) Columbus; and Raymond and Neil at
home. One daughter, Verna, died in infancy.
is also survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Smith of
Augusta, 31 grandchildren and one
served as treasurer of the Town of Foster since 1938; prior to that
he was on the school board for several years.
funeral was in charge of the Jenson Funeral Home of Hixton. The
body reposed at his home from Monday afternoon until services at
2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, at the Methodist Church in
Fairchild, the Rev. Hartmann of Humbird officiating. Burial was in
the Fairchild Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: August Stremikis, Arthur
Baures, Albert Flick, George Walker, Herman Mayer and George
Bedell. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. August Stremikis, Mrs.
Arthur Baures, Mrs. Al Raymond and Mrs. Herman
Mrs. Joe Sysdel and Mrs. Frank Shaw sang two
selections, accompanied by Mrs. Lloyd Krueger at the
