Janet D. Landwehr, 72, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at her home in the town of Eau Pleine, with her family by her side. She had a long battle with Wegner’s disease since 1980. The doctors always said she was a miracle for surviving as long as she did.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Nov. 30, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, March Rapids. The Rev. Thomas Haar officiated. Deborah Haar was the organist for congregational singing and additional music was provided by Emmanuel Sacred Steel Band. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Grandsons Chad, Jacob, Travis and Adam Landwehr and Derek Stroetz served as pall bearers.
Janet D. Winter was born on Dec. 29, 1936, in the town of Lynn, to Louis and Lydia (nee Sternitzky) Winter. She attended Sunbeam School and graduated from Granton High School in 1954. She worked at Karau’s supermarket for five years. She met her future husband, Lavern Landwehr, in 1955, and they were married on May 30, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton. They farmed for 40 years and also owned and operated Landwehr Repair Shop Inc. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards, traveling and fishing. Her true delight was playing Rummy Royal and cards with her grandkids as they were growing up. She was just starting to teach her great-grandchildren Uno. She taught Sunday School and was a member of Ladies Aid. She also enjoyed bowling for many years and still kept in touch with her bowling team.
