Merlak, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Golden - 1955)

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Merlak celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, September 4. They started the day by attending mass at the holy Family Church in Willard at 8:30.

At 12 o’clock a dinner was served to approximately 140 guests. The hall was decorated with blue and white streamers.  Bouquets of gladioli helped beautify the tables.  On the anniversary table was a three tiered wedding cake covered with white icing, yellow roses and a number 50 in yellow bead-like candles.

The afternoon was spent visiting with friends and relatives. Accordion music was furnished by Mary Ann and Donna Auman.

The couple was born in Yugoslavia and arrived in this country in 1902.  They were united in marriage in Our Mother of God Catholic Church in Waukegan, Ill, in 1905, later moving to DeKalb, Ill., thence to Greenwood, where they have lived the past 39 years.

To this union were born 11 children: Mrs. Carl (Anna) Sternichuk, Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Paul (Mary) Gephart, Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Harry (Agnes) Bushman, Chicago, Mrs. Arthur (Frances ) Opp, Plains, Mont., Mrs. Phillip (Jeanette) Nagel, Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Frank (Mathilda) Kosic, Chicago, John, Waukegan, Lloyd, Cedarburg, Matt, Loyal, Martin on the home farm, and Frank Jr. deceased.
