Harris E. Nielsen was born June 22, 1952, in Marshfield, the son of Henry and Beatrice (Schwarze) Nielsen.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1970. After high school, Harris entered the Wisconsin National Guard in May of 1970 and served until is his discharge in September 1976.  He returned home and helped his father on the family farm.

Harris was united in marriage June 21, 1980, to Kathleen Anderson at Bethany Lutheran Chruch in Kenosha.  They purchased a farm near Neillsville in 1981 and lived there until moving to their current farm, located between Loyal and Granton in the Town of York, in 1988.  He farmed until the time of his death.

Harris had many interests but especially loved spending time with his family, his dog and cat, deer hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, playing cards and Parcheesi, the Packers and playing softball when he was younger.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kathleen of Granton; his son, Joshua of Granton; his mother, Beatrice Nielsen of Greenwood; his siblings, Harlan Nielsen of Greenwood, Berdell Nielsen (husband Paul Boutwell) of Mazomanie, Roy Nielsen of Hillpoint, Larry Nielsen and David (Sheryl) Nielsen of Greenwood; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry, July 31, 2005.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at St. Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.  Reverend Timothy Biebert will take place in the Greenwood City Cemetery in Greenwood.  Visitation will be held at the church Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
