Draper, Fred (1956)

Miss Bernice Draper, daughter of Fred Draper, former resident of Loyal and Neillsville, has written news of her father in a Christmas letter to Neillsville friends.  Mr. Draper is now 88 years old.  In spite of his years he keeps well and retains a keen interest in the world about him.

His eyesight has been impaired so he must depend on "Talking books," TV programs and recordings for entertainment and to keep him abreast of the times.  His daughter also reads to him at such times as her work permits.

She writes, "I am often called upon to supply names of rivers, mountain peaks, Biblical characters, names of historical characters," etc., which shows he wide range of interests he has. She adds, "We never know in what field of knowledge the lightning will strike next; but it does tend to keep us nimble."

The "We" includes Miss Draper and a friend who resides in their home.

Mr. Draper spent his early years in Loyal and returned to make his home there at the termination of his service as Clark County Clerk of Court.  At that time, he lived in Neillsville.  After the death of Mrs. Draper he went to Greensboro, N. C. to make his home with his daughter.  She has taught for a number of years in the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina.
