Elmer J. Speich, 86, Roscoe, Ill., died at 3:25 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, in Fair Oaks Nursing Home, After a courageous 20 year battle with Parkindson’s disease. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7, at First Congregational Church, 10780 3rd, Roscoe, from 9:30 a.m. to time of ceremony at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Jupin will officiate. Burial will be in Roscoe Township Cemetery, Roscoe.

 

Elmer J. Speich was born on March 15, 1923, in Greenwood, to Jacob and Ida (nee Vollrath) Speich. He graduated from Greenwood High School, class of 1941. He also took the agricultural Short Course at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He married Darlene Kind in Greenwood on Oct. 24, 1953. He started farming in Greenwood and managed Co-Op Feed Mills, Watertown. He was then employed by Sundstrand Corporation as a machinist, retiring in 1988. He was a tax preparer for years for years, and a member of First Congregational Church, Roscoe. He enjoyed woodworking.

 

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Speich, Roscoe; son Brian Speich, San Manuel, Ariz; daughter, Dawn Bielefeldt, Muskegon, Mich.; son, Kerry (Reiko) Speich, Rockford, Ill.; and daughter, Joy (Nick) Shoemaker, Machesney Park, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gary (Edie) Speich, Augusta.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; one sister; and one son-in-law, Nicholas Huitzacua.

 

Memorials have been established to the Elmer J. Speich Memorial Fund.
