Amidon, George Earl (15 April 1879 - 1 May 1957) 
 

George Earl Amidon, 78, of Neillsville, Rt. 3, died May 1 in the Marshfield hospital.  Funeral services were held Saturday from the Methodist Church in Melrose.  The Rev. George Robson of Melrose officiated and burial was in the Melrose Cemetery.  The body reposed at the Georgas Funeral Home until Saturday morning. 
 

Mr. Amidon was born April 15, 1879, in Clark County, the son of Charles and Hanna (Anderson) Amidon.  He received his education in the rural schools of the county.  As a young man he worked in the mill at Hayward, later farming near Hayward and Neillsville. After moving to Melrose he operated a dray line for several years.  About a year ago he returned to the Town of Hewett. 
 

On September 20, 1903, he was married to Ruby Turnbull of Hayward.  She died February 11, 1915.  On March 24, 1916, he was married to Laura Wing, who survives him.    
 

He is also survived by there children: Mrs. Glenn (Hazel) Stevens, Wausau; Mrs. F. J. (Blanche) Leininger, Madison; and Clayton Amidon, Poynette; two sisters, Mrs. George Snipes, Clatskanie, Ore, and Mrs. Elmer (Ina) Parlos, Thief River Falls, Minn.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
 

Pallbearers were: Raymond Sonenburg, Charles Lutz, Roy Lutz, Stanton and C. F. Gilbertson and Leo Martin.  In charge of flowers were Mrs. Nina Sonenburg and Mrs. Florence Stevens.  
 

Out of town relatives at Melrose were: Mrs. Inez Patry and Clement P. Patry, Merrillan; Mrs. Laura Amidon, Mrs. James Paulus, Mrs. Lillian Moffatt, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schultz, all of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stevens and son of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Leininger, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Amidon and Janice, Poynette; Mrs. Olive Cummings and Miss Ethel Mallery, Whitehall; Mrs. Lee Johnson, Hixton; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Cummings, Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Scafe, Cataract.
