Gotthold Martin, 74, a resident of this community for the past 40 years passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 1955, at the home of his brother, A. R. Martin, with whom he had been living for the past several months.  He had been ill for some time, suffering from coronary thrombosis.

Friends may call at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home where the body is lying in state until Friday afternoon at two o’clock, when funeral services will be conducted.  Rev. H. D. Wagner will officiate at the services to be held at the funeral home.  Burial will be made in the family lot in the Green Grove Cemetery.

During the ceremony vocal selections will be sung by Mrs. Duane Bulgrin and Mrs. Alfred Thompson, with Mrs. Robert Hendrick presiding at the organ.

Serving as pallbearers will be Franklin Kraut, William Klessig, John Michlig, Henry Bublitz, Joe Schiszik and Jake Johnson.

The deceased was born in Germany in 1880, coming to America as a young man and followed the vocation of blacksmithing.  Later he gave up his trade to engage in farming.  For 40 years he farmed successfully near Curtiss until ill health forced his retirement.  He had never married.

His passing is mourned by his brother, A. R. Martin, Withee; and five nieces, Isabelle and Emmaline, Withee; Mrs. E. C. (Edna) Olds, Owen; Mrs. Harry (Alice) Gustafson, Phillips; and Mrs. Vic (Inez) Nielsen, Withee.
