Leatherdale, Mary Katherine (19 JUNE 1878-24 APRIL 1947)

Mary Katherine (nee Baker) Leatherdale, 68, passed away at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield at 4 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 24.

The deceased was born at Seymour on June 19, 1878, and moved to Clark county with her parents in 1888. She received most of her education in the Catholic school in Neillsville.

She was united in marriage to Amos Leatherdale in Feb. 1899, in the Catholic church here. They lived on a farm near Spokeville in the town of Loyal. To this union were born five children, all surviving. In 1914 her husband was accidently killed, and she lived on the farm with her family until 31 years ago, when she moved to Loyal.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society. She had been active until last fall, when she became ill, failing but never giving up hope. She was conscious until the last and bade farewell to her family present at her bedside when she passed away. All those who knew that they could ask for no better friend or neighbor, she always was willing to do her share for anyone in need.

Surviving are her children; Mrs. Art (Margaret) Cammers of Spokevlle, Bernard at home, Mrs. Albert (Ethel) Wicks of Granton and Gerald of Kalamazoo, Mich., also six grandchildren. Also to mourn her loss are four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Albert Davel of Loyal, Mrs. Ben McKegan, David Baker, Mrs. Charles McCormick, Mrs. Lulu Gustaffson and James Baker of Minneapolis and John Baker of Libby, Mont. Three brothers preceded her in death.

A solemn requiem high mass was read at 9 o’clock last Saturday morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic church, the Rev. Fr. Aloys Zinthefer officiating. Interment was made in St. Anthony’s cemetery.

Those who acted as pallbearers were: Hal Voight, Frank Degenhardt, Nick Beaver, Frank Oestreich, Carl Gerdes and Lawrence Cowles.

Those from away who attended the funeral were two sisters, Mrs. C. D. McCormick and Mrs. Lulu Gustaffson; and one brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. James Baker and son, Dick Baker, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Leatherdale.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother and sister.
