Zerbel, Martin (5 September 1885 - 22 October 1958) 
 

Martin August Zerbel was born at Honey Creek in Sauk County on September 5, 1885, to Herman and Dora Zerbel.  His boyhood days were went with his parents, brothers and sisters on the farm.  He attended the public school near his home.  
 

In 1901 the family moved onto a farm in Clark County, south of Humbird.  Here Martin spent most of his life, living on there after the death of his parents, with his brother, Paul, and family, with the exception of a few years he spent in his own home just across the road in Jackson County, where he was living until the time of his death on Wednesday night, October 22.  He had attained the age of 73 years. 
 

He was a quiet and retiring man, and spent most of his time at home, working in his garden and helping his brother and nephews in their farm work.  He was a kind neighbor and ever ready to lend a helping hand.  Mr. Zerbel remained unmarried. 
 

Survivors are his brother Paul, on the home farm, a sister, Mrs. Rhinehart (Ella) Zimmerman of Black River Falls, and several nieces and nephews. 
 

Funeral services were conducted from St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Rev. Carl Serr officiating.  The song service was given by St. John’s Choir, Mrs. William Theiler, Sr., Mrs. Karl Johnson, Mrs. Elmer Duerkop and Miss Dawn Hardwick, who sang, "Face to Face" and "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross," with Diana Bryner at eh organ. 
 

Burial was made in Mentor Cemetery and arrangements made by the Jensen Funeral Home at Hixton. 
 

Pallbearers were old friends; Paul Elger, John Grueb, Peter Fradenburg, Chester Baily, Max Schenk and Steve Kobiski.
