Hoffman, Mrs. John R. (Died in Auto - about 1 Sept 1912)

The remains of Mrs. John R. Hoffman of Greenwood, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Emma Adams, of that place and her son, who resides at Vandine, passed through here Tuesday on their way to Greenwood.  The story connected with the case is a sad one.  Ten days previous, Mrs. Hoffman in company with her daughter, left Greenwood for Waukesha where deceased had been advised to go by her physician, for the cure of rheumatism in the mud baths of that place.  Arriving there it was found she had other afflictions and was there advised to return home in all possible haste as her case was hopeless.  Having a son residing at Vandine and inasmuch as railroad travel caused her great distress, it was thought best to use an automobile to her son’s home.  The journey was undertaken but on the way Mrs. Hoffman suddenly died and as the nearest undertaker was at Fond du Lac, 18 miles distant, the remains held in the seat by the daughter and son were taken there and prepared for burial.  The balance of the journey to the saddened home in Greenwood was made by train.  Deceased had lived at Greenwood the past 12 years and came there from Stockbridge, Calumet County. - Marshfield Herald
