Duge, Ludwig (6 Dec 1845 - 13 Jan 1913)

Ludwig Duge was born in Teterow, Germany, on Dec. 6, 1845.  Died at Detroit, Mich., Jan 13, 1913.  He was united in marriage to Mary Ott on Oct. 27, 1874 and they came to this country in 1884, settling at New Holstein, Wis.  They lived there 8 years and then came to Clark county, settling on a farm northeast of the city which has been their home ever since.  About three months ago, Mr. Duge’s son, William, took charge of the home farm and he and his wife went to Detroit, Mich., to spend the winter with their oldest daughter, later expecting to return here and settle down to spend the balance of their years in comfort.  Mr. Duge had been ailing for some time, but it was not until he went to Detroit, that it was learned that he was afflicted with a cancer of the stomach, and from which ailment he died.

Mr. Duge was a man of the most sterling qualities for in his business dealings he was always fair and honest with his associates.  He lived a clean honorable life and was an excellent husband and father.  He served in the French-German war in 1870 and 1871.  He is survived by his wife and four children, Albert Duge of Monticello, Ind., Wm. Duge of Neillsville, Mrs. Elmer Buddenhagen of Neillsville and Mrs. Bertha Brandau of Detroit.  Also by two grandchildren, Emelia Brandau and Elinor Duge.  The funeral was held last Thursday at the German Lutheran church and interment was made at the Neillsville cemetery.
