Hawks, Doree (16 JUN 1956)

A white waltz-length gown of Chantilly lace nylon tulle over satin was worn by Miss Doree E. Hawks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hawks, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), for her marriage on Saturday evening to Roger D. Meier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Meier, also of Withee.  The 8:00 o’clock candlelight service was read by the Rev. Ralph Claybaugh in the First Congregational Church at Owen.

Long sleeves, tapering to points over the wrists and a modified scoop neckline fashioned the fitted bodice, and an apron effect detailed the circular skirt.  Imported net was caught to a pearl tiara, and she carried a cascade arrangement  of white roses.

The only attendants for the couple were Miss Janice Hawks, Withee, the bride’s sister, and Donald Meier, Withee, the groom’s brother.  Ushering were Carlos Meier of Curtiss and Kenneth Frost of Montello.

Immediately following the church ceremony, the newlyweds greeted guests from Owen, Withee, Curtiss, Abbotsford, Spencer, Medford, Green Bay, Marengo, Milwaukee, Madison, Stanley, Eau Claire, Mondovi, Alma, Darlington, South Wayne, Shellsburg, Baraboo, Greenwood and Montello at a reception in the church parlors.

The couple are now traveling in northern Wisconsin and will make their home in Madison, where they are University of Wisconsin seniors.  The bride, who attended Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire for two years, is an elementary education major, while her husband, who attended Wis. State College at Superior for one years, is an electrical engineering student.
