Gregorich, Edward (05 JUNE 1918-17 MARCH 2010)

 

Edward J. Gregorich, 91, Greenwood, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Marshfield Care Center, under comfort care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood, on Friday, April 9, from 10 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Greenwood American Legion Post #238.

 

Edward Joseph Gregorich was born on June 5, 1918, in Calumet, Mich., to Joseph and Josephine (nee Vesel) Gregorich. He was raised and received his education in Calumet. As a young man, he worked various jobs until he was inducted into the U. S. Army on Oct. 7, 1942. He served overseas in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe until his honorable discharge on Dec. 8, 1945. He returned to Calumet and worked as a bartender. He married Angela D. Kinkella on Oct. 20, 1947, in Detroit, Mich. He worked as a bartender in Detroit for five years, at which time he moved to Greenwood, and bought a tavern. He operated Ed’s Bar for 28 years and then sold it to his daughter, Barbara. He remained in Greenwood until entering the Marshfield Care Center in December 2009.

 

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Greenwood American Legion Post #238 and had previously served on the Greenwood City Council. He had many interests, including fishing, deer hunting, swimming, cross-country sking, Cubs baseball AND Packer football.

 

He will be dearly missed by his children, Barbara R, (Dennis J.) Rasmussen, Marshfield, Edward G. (Joan) Gregorich, Ottawa, Canada, Diane (Bill) Littman, Madison, and Ann (John) Persick, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca Rasmussen, Ethan Gregorich, Adrian Gregorich, Gabe Gregorich, Sam Littman, Nina Littman, Erin Persick, Amy Persick, Ryan Persick and Claire Persick; and one brother, Joseph (Mary) Gregorich, Calumet, Mich.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Angela, on March 23, 1972; and one son, Charles, at birth.
