Brown, George L. (20 DEC 1865 - 3 NOV 1956)

 

George Lewis Brown, son of Allen and Elizabeth Jane Brown, passed away at the Havenet Home on the 3rd of November, 1956 at 6:45 in the evening at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 20 days.

 

He was born Dec. 20, 1865 in Connecticut and moved to Waterloo, Iowa with his parents at the age of 3.  He was married to Myra Thurston on Dec. 10, 1891 in Iowa.  This next December he and his widow would have observed their 65th wedding anniversary.  He came to Wisconsin in 1916 and moved to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1920, having made his home here ever since.

 

He is survived by his wife, daughter Mabel, (Mrs. E. C. Wallace), of Davenport, Iowa; two sons, Warren of Gladstone, Mich., and Earl of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Ben and Glenn of Waterloo, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Wood of Waterloo, Iowa.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel, (Mrs. Arthur McClune); three brothers and five sisters.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home at one-thirty o’clock Monday afternoon, Nov. 5.  Rev. Ralph Claybaugh, pastor of the First Congregational Church, Owen, officiated and Mrs. H. D. Wagner served as organist.

 

Pallbearers were Gus Braun, Paul Strohkirch, Henry Mauel, Sr., Vern Welker, John Parker and Arnold Hoeper.

 

Floral offerings were carried by the great-granddaughters.
