Wagner, Annette (25 MAY 1957)

Miss Annette Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond M. Wagner, Wausau, Route 4, became the bride of Donald C. Southworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claire E. Southworth, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), Route 2, in a ceremony last Saturday, May 25th, 1957, in Holy Name Catholic Church, Mosinee.

The couple will return after next weekend from a trip to an undisclosed destination to make their home in Marathon.  The bride was graduated in 1955 from the Newman High School in Wausau and has been employed at the Steffke Freight Co. for two years.  Her husband, a graduate of the Owen High School in 1949, is employed by the Farmers Union of Marathon.

The Rev. Lloyd F. Geissler performed the double ring ceremony and nuptial high mass.  The adult choir, directed by the Rev. Stanley Chilicki, sang appropriate nuptial music.  Spring flowers adorned the altar and there were white bows on the pews.

Miss Grace Wagner was her sister’s maid of honor and bridesmaids were the Misses Bernice Southworth, Owen, Route 2, sister of the groom; Florence Oelke, Marathon, and Mary Wagner.  The latter was her sister’s junior brideamid.

John Delmar Muller, Marathon, served as best man.  James Southworth was his brother’s junior groomsman and groomsmen was C. T. 3 C. Ray G. Wagner, stationed in Cheltenham, Md., a brother of the bride, and Roger Altenhofen, Marathon, her second cousin.

Ushering were another brother of the bride, Thomas Wagner, and the groom’s brother, Pfc. John Southworth, Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown fashioned with a lace bodice, the scoop neckline being adorned with seed pearls and mother of pearl sequins.  The satin skirt had two overlays of net topped with tulle, the lace side insertions studded with sequins.

Her silk illusion veil cascaded to her finger tips from a headdress with tulle and lace trimmed with lace, sequins to match the gown décor.  Her shower bouquet was of red roses and white pompons set diagonally on a lace and net fan.  He cultured pearl and sterling silver rosary was a gift of the groom.

The maid of honor had a gown of white taffeta with a blue net overskirt and peplum of white net.  The frock was set off with a blue sash and tiny blue flowers in the shirred hemline.  The bridesmaids were gowned identically but with yellow details.  They wore matching taffeta and net headbands and held small round bouquets of spring flowers, in white and blue or white and yellow.

The bride’s mother was present in a sheer green flowered dress with a beige linen duster, while the groom’s mother wore a pale yellow shantung dress with black dots.  Their corsages were of yellow, pink and white flowers.

Breakfast was served to 35 guests in the church hall, where the supper and reception were held for 200 persons.  At night there was dancing at the Poplar Tree Ballroom.  White, blue and yellow streamers and bells decorated the hall.

Guests came from Milwaukee, Appleton, Stratford, Owen, Marathon, Edgar, Mosinee, Green Bay, North Carolina and Maryland.

For traveling the bride donned a linen suit with white jacket and navy skirt.

(Additional Note of some article corrections by Annette's brother Tom)

I accidentally came upon your site and read Bio of my sister's wedding and noticed a couple errors.
The first paragraph states Holy Name Catholic Church, Mosinee. The correct location is Wausau
not Mosinee. Also the 5th paragraph lists John Delmar Muller his last name is Mullen not Muller

Also I would like to say this is a terrific thing you are doing for Clark county history, I wish all counties
would do the same. Very nice site.

Thomas Wagner (usher at the wedding)
