Ella Elizabeth (Hansen) Gorsegner, age 106 years, 11 months and 8 days, died May 26, 2010, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley, WI.

Ella Elizabeth Hansen was born June 18, 1903, to George and Helena Hansen in a log cabin in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, WI.  She attended schools in the Thorp area through her sophomore year in high school, when she was hired by the Bert Hubbard family to help care for their baby boy, Dean.

On May 7, 1924, she married Gustav Adolph Gorsegner and moved to his farm in the Town of Reseburg. They lived there until 1939, when they moved to Thorp.  Gust died on February 12, 1974.

Ella was a seamstress, a gardener, and enjoyed reading, crocheting, doing crosswords, and spending time with her many friends.   She was a caregiver to her husband, who had multiple sclerosis for many years. She helped with the school lunch program at Thorp Elementary.  She was employed as a receptionist and bookkeeper for Drs. Philip and Eleanore Jorgensen until they moved to Michigan.  She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

After selling her home in 2003, she lived independently at Morgan Plaza for four years, where she was president of the Road Runners Club.  At the age of 104, she realized that she needed assistance and moved to Oakbrook Health & Rehab in September 2007.

Ella is survived by two daughters: Helen Elizabeth Davis, Canton, MN, and Regina Edith Broeking, Merrill, WI; one son, Leonard Ernst Gorsegner, Stillman Valley, IL; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974; her parents; three brothers: George, Jr., Alfred, and Harold Hansen; one sister, Regina (Hansen) Kummer; sons-in-law: Tom Davis and Carl Broeking; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Gorsegner.

Funeral services were held on May 28, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. The organist was Shirley Gostomski. Burial was at Sylvan Cemetery in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp.  Pallbearers were relatives: Bruce Broeking, Sr., Bruce Broeking, Jr., Bill Buss, Marvin Buss, Tom Davis, Jr., and Matthew Winchell.
