Lamont, James R. (8 JUN 1934 - 17 JUL 2010)

 

ABBOTSFORD -- James R. Lamont, 76, of Abbotsford died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Abbotsford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. The Rev. Daniel Hackel will officiate. A memorial gathering will take place one hour prior to the service. Internment of ashes will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery.

James was born June 8, 1934, to Malcolm and Stella (Heppner) Lamont. He had one sister, Betty Kremsreiter and an Uncle Robert "Butch" Heppner who he grew up with.

He attended Abbotsford Public Schools and graduated in 1952. He played baseball, basketball and football.

In 1961, he went to Fort Lewis, Wash., with the Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. While in the Guard, he was part of a barbershop quartet, which they later continued back at home.

James married Darlene Grambort on May 4, 1963. They had four children and six grandchildren.

He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. He attended the famous "Ice Bowl" in 1967. He was proud whenever those sports teams excelled and won championships.

James, along with a group of politicians, traveled to Saudi Arabia in 1973 to meet with King Faisal about the oil crisis.

He worked all his life for Lamont's Service Inc.

He also enjoyed bowling and was on a number of teams.

James is survived by his mother, Stella; his wife, Darlene; four children, Patti (Doug) Klemm of Medford, Mary (Dan) Smola of Medford, James Lamont II of Abbotsford, and John (Eve) Lamont of Abbotsford; six grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Smola, Trent and Jenna Klemm, Kobe and Finley Lamont; one sister, Betty (Joseph) Kremsreiter of Abbotsford; one aunt, Bernice "Barney" Hamilton of Illinois; two uncles, Robert "Butch" (Rhea) Heppner of Maiden Rock and Angus (Ginny) Lamont of Colby.

He was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm, in 2004.
