Bitter, Ervin H. (30 Jan. 1890 - 28 Mar. 1959)

 

Ervin H. Bitter, 69, died of a coronary thrombosis at his home Saturday afternoon. A short funeral service was held at the Zink Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock after which the body was taken to the Presbyterian church where the Rev. Lawrence Faivre conducted services at 1:30. Mr. Bitter was a member of the Presbyterian church.

 

Military rites were under the auspices of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the Wausau, Colby and Abbotsford posts. Casey Jones, a former Seventh District commander, and Marathon County service officer, of Wausau, served as officer of the day. Buglers were from the Abbotsford high school music department.

 

Pallbearers for the internment made in the Abbotsford cemetery were Vern Dohm, Ralph Bargenquast, William Wyman, Leo Underwood, Homer Smith and Lyle Johnson.

 

The ladies of the V.F.W., Knaack-Thompson Post No. 865, were in charge of the flowers.

 

Ervin Bitter was born Jan. 30, 1890, in Sheboygan county. He married Miss Adeline Weetz at Marshfield, Aug. 6, 1926.

 

Mr. Bitter served in the 3rd Infantry Division during World War I and was wounded in action in Germany. An active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knaack-Thompson Post No. 865, Mr. Bitter had the distinction of being a 26-year continuous member, serving the organization in every office.

 

Mr. Bitter was a construction foreman and carpenter. Last year, he served the village as assessor and was a candidate for reelection next Tuesday.  

 

Surviving him are his widow; two sons, M. Sgt. John Bitter, U.S. Air Force, of Rapid City, S. Dak.; and Sgt. Melvin H. Bitter, White Sands, New Mexico. There are six grand children; two brothers, Harvey, of Abbotsford; and Edgar, of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Scheuerman, Abbotsford; and Mrs. Nick (Alice) Selzner, Chippewa Falls.

 

One sister, Mrs. Otto Heidtke, Dorchester, preceded him in death in 1930.
