Schelling, Charles (22 June 1871 - 13 Feb. 1960)

 

Funeral services for Charles Schelling, who died of complications of age, Saturday, were held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon at Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby. Mr. Schelling was 88 years old at the time of his death which occurred at Mt. View Sanatorium, Wausau, where he was a patient the past nine months.

 

The Rev. David Passet, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated at the funeral and at the burial made in the Colby cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were Walter and Lawrence Mueller, Dr. W. Payne, Robert Unger, Claude Bane and Fred Schweierske.

 

Mr. Schelling was born June 22, 1871 in Illinois and was married in Iowa on June 26, 1898, to the former Estelle Stall, who preceded him in death in April of 1957.

 

The couple moved to a farm in the town of Hull about five miles east of Abbotsford in 1920. After the death of Mrs. Schelling, he made his home here with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Schelling until he entered the sanatorium.

 

He was a member of the United Brethren church in Iowa.

 

Surviving him are his son, Noel, three grand children and a brother, Ernest, of Brawley, California.

 

One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

 

Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arland Stall of Janesville, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rice of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Vandehey, Auburndale; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vandehey, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Vandehey, Escanaba, Michigan; and James Vandehey, Baraboo.
