Hutt, John A. (29 June 1878 - 16 Mar. 1960)

 

John Hutt died Wednesday morning at St. Joseph’s hospital. The body was taken to Polnaszek Funeral Home and the funeral will be Saturday at the Presbyterian church at 2 p.m.

 

Mr. Hutt, a long-time resident of Abbotsford, leaves his widow, a son, Maurice, and a daughter, Mrs. Ben (Florence) Laabs, Abbotsford. There are four grand children and two great grand children.

Funeral services for John A. Hutt, 81, who died of a heart condition at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, Mar. 16, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian church. The Rev. Lawrence Faivre officiated at the services, during which Mrs. Douglas Oyan of Marshfield sang "Rock of Ages" and "Love Divine, All Love Excelling." Mrs. Faivre was the accompanist and organist.

 

Pallbearers for internment made in the Abbotsford cemetery were Gerhardt Anderson, Harold Christonsen, Vane Gokey, Sr., A. J. Hennlich, Carl Speck and Henry Weideman.

 

The flowers were in charge of the Royal Neighbors and were carried by Mmes. Orville Lieders, Sr., Alfred Scheel, Eldred Schraufnagel and Elmer Schraufnagel.

 

John A. Hutt was born June 29, 1878, in Morisburg, Ontario, Canada, and came to Clark county in 1884. He received his education in Clark county schools. On Aug. 22, 1906, he and Cloe Dorothea Conaway were united in marriage in Neillsville.

 

He operated a hotel in Chili until 1914 when he became manager of the Ferndale Rod and Gun Club on Chain Lake near New Auburn. In 1917, they moved to Abbotsford where he operated the Coffee Shop, a restaurant, hotel and bus depot, until 1945, when he retired.

 

Mr. Hutt was a member of the First Presbyterian church and of the IOOF Lodge. He served as village trustee and was also village president at one time.

 

Surviving are his widow, a son, Maurice Hutt, and a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Florence) Laabs, both of Abbotsford; four grand children and two great grand children.

 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Tarry Hutt, and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Tuchschere, of Marshfield.

 

Relatives and friends from away who came for the funeral included Mrs. Bernard Laabs, Salem, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Conaway, Chili; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bremmer, Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams and family and Mrs. A. J. Folstad, Barron; Mrs. Clarence Soderburg and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kuepper, Madison; Dr. and Mrs. G. C. Chronquist and Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Henning, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Nelson, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gilson, Merrill; Mrs. Arnold Grell and Mrs. Martin Betz, Wausau; and Mrs. Norma Busches, Stratford.
