Tompkins, Rose (5 March 1878 - 13 March 1959)

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Bergemann Funeral Home for Mrs. Rose Tompkins, 81, a former Neillsville resident, who died Friday at the Manawa Convalescent Home in Manawa. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey, pastor of the United Church of Christ, officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Tompkins, the former Rose C. Neverman, daughter of the late Henry and Mary Neverman, was born March 5, 1878, in Neillsville. She attended Neillsville schools and for many years taught school.  She later worked for several years in a flower shop in Chicago, until her marriage in 1900 to Morton Thompkins at Neillsville.  Following their marriage they moved to California, returning to Neillsville in 1912.

Mrs. Tomkins made Neillsville her home until 1954, when she became ill and was taken to a convalescent home in Clintonville.  She had been at Manawa since last November.

She was a member of Carmi Chapter, No. 60, Order of Eastern Star, and Golden Link Lodge, No. 78, Royal Neighbors of America, both of which attended the services in a body.

She is survived by a daughter, Miss Aline Tompkins, who is an assessor in the reassessment field, working in the state of Wisconsin, and is presently on a reassessment at Middleton; and a son, Darrell (Sid) Thompkins, Neillsville. She also is survived by two grandchildren, Patricia Rose and Darrell of Neillsville, and the following sisters: Mrs. John (Clara) Minta of Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. John (Viola) Skewis of Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Art (Alice) Flynn of Neillsville; and Mrs. Mae Williams of Neillsville.

Pallbearers were: Herbert Brown, Ernest Snyder, Joe Zimmerman, Charles Poole, Harold Trewartha and Ray Strebing.

Out-of-town persons attending the funeral were: Mrs. Alvin Accola of Alma; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jackson of King; Evelyn Larson, city clerk of Galesville, and Mrs. William Lauer, Winona, Minn.
