Humbird, Wisconsin (7 May 1959)

 

Mrs. Alma Zimmerman and Mrs. Danny Wallace and children got caught just outside of Neillsville in a very severe wind, hail and rainstorm Monday just after dinner. They were badly frightened, but uninjured when a tree snapped off and went completely over their car.

 

Sunday, May 10, is Mother’s Day and Rev. Jack Burt of the Methodist Church will speak on, "Keepers of Destiny," at the morning worship.  Members of the Sunday school will present a short program.

 

A junior choir is being organized in the Methodist Church under the direction of Mrs. Edith Smith and Mrs. Gordon Gearing.  Children are to meet Friday after school in the Gordon Gearing home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Will Ringrose and Miss Elsie John were Black River Falls visitors Wednesday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Victor Scheibe were guests of her sister, Mrs. Howard Lawrence, Wednesday and called on a niece and nephew while in Altoona.

 

Mrs. Raymond Stuve and Mrs. Martha Simons were Eau Claire and Altoona visitors Thursday.

 

Mrs. Albert Van Kirk is slowly improving, but still is a hospital patient.  She has been confined for five weeks. Mrs. Harold Hart called on her Saturday in the Black River Falls Hospital.

 

Mrs. Peter Hemmy is recovering quite well at her home.

 

Mrs. Sena Hauge of Mazomanie called at the home of her brother, Mahlon Lund, Saturday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hanson of Augusta were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Losey Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Clint Thompson of La Crosse came Saturday to spend the day at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Walter Sheffer.

 

Stanley Adler of Marshfield spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Adler.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Christensen and daughter of Union Grove called Wednesday evening at the Elmer Duerkop home.

 

Mrs. Harold Morgan and Mrs. Edwin Zimmerman spent Sunday with Miss Shirley Morgan in Minneapolis.

 

Mr. and Mrs. John Grueb visited last Sunday at the Louie Laffe home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Croell of Lawler, Ia., were weekend guests of his sister, Mrs. Herb Adler.  Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Adler and their guests attended the wedding of his nephew, Tim Mertens, and LaVerne Abel in Greenwood.

 

Mrs. Hazel Scheibe and Mrs. Park Sample spent Friday with Mrs. Lottie Morrison at Rock Dam.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gerber of Madison were overnight guests Wednesday at the home of his brother, Herman Gerber. They had visited his sister, Mrs. Henry Stanley in the Neillsville Hospital.

 

Mrs. and Mrs. Louie Laffe and Mrs. Frieda Bleiler recently were supper guests at the Art Laffe home, helping little David celebrate his fourth birthday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Phil Haugstad and family of Black River Falls were guests last Sunday evening at the Louie Laffe home.

 

Charlie Hart is a patient at Lutheran Hospital, at La Crosse where he underwent surgery Wednesday.
