Jeffrey was born in Waynesville, Ill., October 8, 1889.  They were married June 9, 1909, in the Christian Church at Clinton, Ill., and made their home for five years at Stanford.  Later they lived in Iowa six years, and in 1920 they came to Clark County and purchased a farm in the Town of Fremont, where they made their home until 1945, when they moved to Neillsville.

They purchased the William Hemp residence on Hewett Street and later purchased the Joe Urban residence on Oak Street, where they now live.  Seven years ago, Mr. Kauffman suffered a stroke which has confined him to a wheelchair; but he has learned to use his left hand and does considerable painting.  Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman have five grandchildren.
