Janicki, Ted F. (11 MAR 1919 - 19 OCT 2010)

 

NEILLSVILLE -- Ted F. Janicki, 91, of Neillsville died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. Burial will follow in Hatfield Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8494 of Alma Center.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Buchanan Funeral Home in Neillsville, and at the church Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.

Ted was born March 11, 1919, at Indiana Harbor, Ind., to Joseph and Mary (Karkiewicz) Janicki. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 313th 79th Division as a water coded machine gunner during the 5th Wave at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. He was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.

After being honorably discharged in 1946, he married Dorothy Mack on Nov. 16, 1946, in Neillsville. She preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 2010.

He farmed from 1947 until the present time in the town of Dewhurst, Clark County. Ted also was employed from 1961 to 1984 as an ammunition expert at Fort McCoy.

He is survived by eight children, Ted Jr. (Corinne) of Neillsville, Michael (Barbara) of Cadott, Mark of Neillsville, Craig (Diann) of Neillsville, Sheryl (John) Jenness of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Kevin (Renee) of Neillsville, Robin (Steve) Simonis of Neillsville and Jessica (Bill) Staszak of Hatfield; 45 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Regina Mays of Wylie, Texas, and Clara St. John of Neillsville.

Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville assisted the family with arrangements.
