Butler, George M. (2 SEP 1878 - 5 OCT 1956)

 

George McClellan Butler, son of George A. and Nancy Butler, was born at Nelson, Buffalo Co., Wis., Sept. 2nd, 1878 and passed away Oct. 5th, 1956 at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 3 days.

 

Mr. Butler had a stroke on the 10th of August and was confined to a wheelchair until time of death.

 

At the age of 2 years, 9 months, his parents moved to North Foster, which at that time was all wilderness.  During the school terms he stayed with his sisters and brothers on their farm in Kirkham Valley, where he went to school for 4 terms.  He completed his education in the old log school of Butler, traveling a cow path.  When the river overflowed its banks, they traveled 7 miles by way of South Fork to cross on a foot log.  He grew to manhood and established his farm in the town of Foster (Clark Co., Wis.), where he lived until 4 years ago.  He spent his remaining years with his daughter, Mrs. Curtis Mayenschein.

 

Oct. 17th, 1910 he was united in marriage to Annie Bloomquist of Tioga, Wis.  To this union 5 children were born.  His wife preceded him in death 37 years ago.  Surviving his death are 4 daughters and one son, Lucy, Mrs. Harrington, Milwaukee, Wis., Evelyn, Mrs. Markee, Redmond, Wash., Edith, Mrs. Hall, Wis. Rapids, Wis., Laura, Mrs. Mayenschein, and Clarence Butler of Thorp, Wis., twenty grandchildren and many other relatives and friends..

 

Mack as he was called by his friends, was a kind and good neighbor and was liked by a host of friends.
