Tomlinson, Lawrence William (2 August 1889 - 22 November 1959)

 

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral home for Lawrence William Tomlinson, 70, Rt. 3, Neillsville, who died Sunday in a Marshfield Hospital.

 

The Rev. Ethel B. Nulton of Greenwood will officiate, and burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. Tomlinson was born August 2, 1889, in Kentucky.  As a young man he went to Illinois, where he was engaged in farming.  He came to Wisconsin in 1921 and he farmed until 1943, when the family went to Milwaukee. They resided there for 11 years before returning in 1954, locating at Christie.  He had been in poor health for the last three years.

 

On July 1, 1908, he was married to the former Margie Carter of Olney, Ill.  Mr. and Mrs. Tomlinson celebrated their golden wedding in 1958.

 

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Homer Tomlinson, Campbellsport; Jesse Tomlinson, of Greenwood; Mrs. Peter (Pauline) Strangfeld, Neillsville; and Mrs. Lester (Violet) Ross, Osseo.  Other survivors are four sisters: Mrs. John (Tena) Cox, Walnut Ridge, Ark.; Mrs. John (Zora) Overfield, Missouri; Mrs. Letha Engelhart, Compton, Cal.; Mrs. Miles (Mable) Haynes, Wood River, Ill.; and three brothers, Tomie Tomlinson, Menon, Ida.; Luther Tomlinson, Black Rock, Ark.; and Earl Tomlinson, Wood River, Ill.  Also, 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.

Funeral Services for Lawrence William Tomlinson, 70, were conducted Friday from the Georgas Funeral Home.  The Rev. Ethel B. Nulton of Greenwood officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Fritz Quast, Fred Murphy, Viv Carteron, Melvin Hanson, Joe Strangfeld and Alvin Wold.  Two hymns, "Rock of Ages," and "Abide with Me" were sung by Wilfred Galstad, accompanied by his daughter, Miss Kathleen Galstad.
