Leiby, Guy R. (2 NOV 1887 - 13 JAN 1957)

 

Last rites were held for Guy R. Leiby, 69, former Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, from the Laemmirch Funeral Home, Menasha, Wis., and a 9:00 a.m. Jan. 15 at St. Mary’s Church, there Rev. Joseph Becker officiated at the services.

 

Mr. Leiby passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital at Appleton on Jan. 13, 1957.

 

He was born in Dale, Wis., on Nov. 2, 1887.  He came to Thorp as a young man and was united in marriage to Elizabeth Haas on Aug. 7, 1917 at St. Bernard’s Church here.  He was a veteran of World War I and after that he was employed for a number of years as rural mail carrier from the Thorp Post Office, and later was engaged in the trucking business before moving to Menasha.

 

He had retired as flagman for the Chicago & Northwester railroad.

 

Surviving him, besides his wife, are one daughter, Angela, Mrs. John Hanamann, 157 W. Seymour St., Appleton, Wis., one brother, John Leiby, Fremont, Wis., five sisters, Mrs. Emil Ristou, Fremont, Mrs. Henry Strockschein, Oshkosh, Mrs. Wm. Greening, Medina, Wis., and Mrs. Edwin Wentzel and Mrs. Andrew Grignon of Winneconne, Wis., and five grandchildren.

 

Interment took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Appleton, with military services at the grave by members of the American Legion Post.  Pallbearers were Messrs. McFadden, Mahoney, Buytaert, Mielke, Hoke and Sheperski.
