Schmidt, Romuald W. (5 November 1916 - 5 September 1960)

Funeral services with military rites were held September 8 from the Bergemann Funeral Home for Romuald W. Schmidt, 43, assistant postmaster, who died September 5 from injuries sustained at his farm home, south of Neillsville.  The Rev. Frank B. Harcey officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Dan Brewer, Jack Counsell, George Crothers, Ernest Horehled, Harold Kren and Mike Krultz, Jr.  Honorary pallbearers were postmasters from neighboring towns: Dr. R. L. Barnes of Greenwood; John Lesar of Willard; and Harold A. Wendt of Owen.

Members of the Haugen-Richmond Post, No. 73, American Legion, taking part in the military rites were: Joe Cardarelle, Gust Carl, Clarence Haigh, Joe Hartung, Arnold Henchen, Ernest Ott, Charles Poole, Leon Stanley and Herman Tesmer, with Gary Thornton as bugler.

Two hymns were sung by Wilfred B. Galstad; "Under His Wing" and "Abide With me," accompanied by Miss Kathleen Galstad.

M. Fritsch, Sparta; and Don Speich, Eau Claire.
