Rice, William G. (26 SEP 1961 - 28 AUG 2010)

 

William G. Rice, 48, of Lakeville, formerly of Clarion, died on Saturday, August 28, 2010, in Dunmore.

 

Born on September 26, 1961, in Brookville, he was the son of Gordon J. Rice Jr. and Dorothy Reinsel Rice of Clarion.

 

Mr. Rice was married on February 14, 1989, to the former Janet Accetturo, who survives.

 

He was a graduate of Clarion Area High School and Gannon University in 1985.  He attended University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX, and graduated from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA in 1993.  Prior to law school, he worked for National Fuel Gas in Erie.  He was a law clerk for Judge Harold A. Thomson, Pike County; and was a Pike County Public Defender.  He was a former County Solicitor, and a former partner with Arthur Ridley at Ridley & Rice.  He was currently employed by Weinstein, Schneider, Kannebecker, & Lokuta.

 

Mr. Rice was a member of the Queen of Peace Church in Hawley, PA; and the Knights of Columbus Hawley Council #797.  Also, he was a long time treasurer of the Greeley Volunteer Fire Department.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his four daughters, Keyne Elizabeth, Margaret Mary, Natalie Rachel, and Emily Therese Rice at home; four siblings, Sherrie Smith and her husband, Brad, of Franklin, WI; Joseph Rice and his wife, Bonnie, of Clarion; Mary Jeanne Bagileo and her husband, Nick, of Laurel, MD; and Kathleen McElravy and her husband, Rob, of Shippenville; many beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren; and his godmother, Helen Stahlman of Clarion.

 

He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Marie Rice in 1961.

 

Callings hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion.  Celebrants will be Rev. Peter Pilsner, Rev. William A. Rice, uncle, and Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church.

 

Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to:  Greeley Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 99, Greeley, PA 18425; and the Queen of Peace Church, 314 Chestnut Avenue, Hawley, PA 18428.

 

Family Note: I gathered the family genealogy data: My brother, Bill, was to compile it unto a book after he retired from his attorney job.  Looks like I'm on my now.

Our 5th great grandmother, Margaret Ann Miller Flick, lived over 30 years in Mentor township after her husband Jacob R. Flick was killed in a hunting accident in Sept. 1867. (Sherrie Rice Smith)
