Ellingson, Elmyra  (03 NOV 1925-11 JUNE 2002)

 

Elmrya M. Ellingson, 76, Elmhurst, Ill., formerly of Greenwood, died on Tuesday, June 11, 2002. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Elmhurst, Ill.

 

Elmrya Marie Johnson was born on Nov. 3, 1925, in Greenwood, to Elmer and Mabel Johnson. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Greenwood and taught Sunday school in the community. After high school, she moved to Chicago and attended nurse’s training at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital. She married Erling Ellingson on March 24, 1946. They settled in Champaign, Ill., and moved to Elmhurst in 1953. A registered nurse, she worked at Elmhurst Hospital and Elmhurst Clinic for many years. She was the school nurse at Elmhurst Public Schools from 1971-88. She was active in Guild and ellowship activities and Bible study groups at Epiphany Lutheran Church and St, Peter;s United Church of Christ.

 

Survivors include six children, Karyn (John) Goodhand, Mark (Karen) Ellingson, Kathy (Reilly) Anderson, and Kristin (Peter) Chaffey, all of Fairbanks, Alaska, Karyl (Mike) Silerzio, Naperville, Ill., and Steve Ellingson, Shaumberg, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Erling, in 2000; and one grandson, Cole Goodhand.
