Atzen, Betty Jean (19 AUG 1961)

Miss Betty Jean Atzen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Atzen, and Kenneth E. Riegert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Riegert of Stetsonville, exchanged marriage vows Saturday, Aug. 29, 1961.  The Rev. Wilferd Fries witnessed the double ring ceremony before the 10 o’clock nuptial high mass at Sacred heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of embroidered organza.  The short sleeved fitted bodice had a scalloped neckline trimmed with seed pearls.  A crown of pearls held her elbow length veil and she carried a crescent shaped bouquet of pink roses and Amazon lilies.

Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Riegert, Medford, brother and sister-in-law of the groom; Mr. and Mrs. John Coricks, Medford, brother-in-law and sister of the groom; Miss Linda Clark, Owen, a friend of the bride, and William Atzen, a brother of the bride.  Miss Linda Atzen, Abbotsford, and Miss Shirley Riegert, Stetsonville, sister of the bridal couple, were junior bridesmaids, and Miss Nancy Atzen, another sister of the bride, and Donna Wimmer, Medford, a niece of the groom, were flower girls.

The bridal aides were attired alike in street length dresses of peacock blue organza designed with low backed fitted bodices, short sleeves and full skirts with paneled back fullness.  They wore matching veils secured to small crowns, white gloves and white shoes, and carried cascade bouquets of peacock blue carnations, trimmed with white satin.

The two little flower girls wore white net headpieces and white gloves with their short dresses of white organza.  They carried wicker baskets of white pompons and blue carnations.

Mrs. Atzen chose a light blue nylon over taffeta dress for her daughter’s wedding.  Mrs. Riegert wore a green sheer cotton.  Both mothers wore white accessories and had corsages of pink garnet roses and white carnations.

Corsages of pink and white carnations were worn by Miss John Ramm, Davenport, Ia., paternal grandmother of the bride, and Mrs. Adam Schneider, Stetsonville, maternal grandmother of the groom.

Following the ceremony, an 11:30 o’clock luncheon was served in the church basement, and a 4:30 o’clock supper was served to about 200 guests.  A reception was held at on o’clock at the C.O.P. Hall and in the evening a wedding dance was held at Memorial Hall, Dorchester.

Guests attending the wedding came from Chicago, Evanston, Des Plaines, Glenview and Round Lake, Ill., Davenport and Dubuque, Ia., Milwaukee, West Allis, Wausau, Medford, Stetsonville, Dorchester and Abbotsford.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Riegert are making their home at 703 Fulton St., Wausau.  Mr. Riegert is employed with a road construction firm at Medford, and Mrs. Riegert is employed at Employers Mutual Insurance office at Wausau.
