Lyon, Lyle D. (Airplane Crash - 22 August 1954)

 

Lyle D. Lyon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette Lyon, La Crosse is reported conscious and doing well after being one of nine persons hospitalized following a Braniff Airline crash in Mason City, Iowa on Sunday. 

 

Lyon a former resident of Loyal, suffered a spinal injury and was taken to a nearby hospital in Hampton, Iowa.

 

Eleven persons lost their lives in the big plane which was warned not to try landing in the severe storm.

Lyle Lyon who was reported in an airplane crash in Iowa recently is reported to be in fair condition. The accident caused an injury to his spine which left his legs paralyzed and it is not known whether the paralysis will be permanent or not.  It is hoped that an operation will help.

 

Lyons was returning to his home in La Crosse on furlough from the Air Force when the mishap occurred.  He is a grandson of Mrs. Lillie Lyon but, has never lived in Loyal as was stated in the report last week.  His present address is: St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Room 226, Mason City, Iowa.
