Gierl, Barbara (27 JAN 1962)

Miss Barbara Gierl and James M. Dennis exchanged marriage vows at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Saturday, Jan. 27, 1962, at 11 o’clock.  The double ring services was witnessed by the Rev. Raymond B. Schulz, who also sang the nuptial high mass.

Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Klinkhammer of Abbotsford and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dennis of Eau Claire.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, appeared in a ballerina length gown that featured a Chantilly lace bodice with a jeweled Sabrina neckline and long sleeves.  The full hoop skirt was detailed with circular lace appliques.  Her fingertip veil was secured to a jeweled crown fashioned in a water lily motif.  She carried a cascade bouquet of red and white roses.

Attending the bride were three sisters, attired alike in red dresses designed with velvet bodices with scoop neckline, and three-quarter length sleeves.  The full hoop skirts of chiffon were accented by cummerbunds of chiffon with a red velvet bow at the front.  They wore matching short veils attached to crowns similar to that worn by the bride and carried bouquets centered with red carnations, surrounded by white carnations in a nosegay arrangement.

Miss Dorothy Gierl of Minneapolis was the maid of honor and Miss Judith Gierl of Marquette University, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Keith Zimmerman of Anoka, Minn., were the bridesmaids.

Attending the groom as best man was his brother Patrick of Eau Claire.  Another brother, Edgar of the University of Missouri in Columbus, Mo., and Keith Zimmerman of Anoka, were the groomsmen.

David Klinkhammer and Steven Dennis, brothers of the bridal couple, performed the ushering duties at the church.

Mrs. Klinkhammer wore a multi-colored wool jersey dress with green accessories to her daughter’s wedding.

Mr. Dennis chose a polka dot navy silk ensemble with white accessories.

Both mothers had corsages of red roses and white carnations.

A reception was held and a diner was served at the home of the bride’s parents.  The home was decorated with red and white crepe paper streamers and white bells.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Dennis left on a short honeymoon, and after Feb. 1 will be at home at Kingsford, Mich., where the bride is a member of the high school faculty.  She is a graduate of the Abbotsford High School and Wis. College, Eau Claire.

Mr. Dennis is a student at Northern State College, Marquette, Mich.

About 150 friends and relatives attended the wedding reception.  Members of the immediate family who were home for the occasion included: Miss Pat Gierl, Washington, D.C.; Miss Judith Gierl, Milwaukee; Peter Gierl and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Zimmerman and son, Anoka, Minn.; Miss Dorothy Gierl, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nielson and son, Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Klinkhammer and Mr. and Mrs. George Kummeth, Owatonna, Minn.; David Klinkhammer, Collegeville, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harder, Milladore; and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Walter, Chippewa Falls, grandparents of the groom.
