Schmidt, Ida (20 SEP 1873 - 31 MAR 1962)

 

Funeral services for Mrs. William Schmidt, 88, who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Saturday morning at 4 a.m. of complications of age, were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby.  The Rev. William Christian officiated at the church and at the burial made in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were six grandsons: Roger and Kenneth Schmidt of Milwaukee, Richard Schmidt of West Allis, Neal Schmidt of Madison, Ronald Schmidt of Colby and Clement Mech of Abbotsford.

 

Relatives attending the funeral came from Sheboygan, Milwaukee, West Allis, Madison, Athens, Owen, Curtiss, Colby and Abbotsford.

 

The former Ida Lohman was born Sept. 20, 1873, in Sheboygan County.  She and William Schmidt were united in marriage Jan. 16, 1898.  They farmed in Sheboygan Co. and in 1908 came to t a farm in the town of Hull.  They moved to Colby in 1926.

 

After the death of her husband in 1953, Mrs. Schmidt lived with her children and the past three years made her home in Abbotsford with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Frane.

 

Mrs. Schmidt was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Colby.

 

Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. John (Mathilda) Hager of Milwaukee and Mrs. Arthur (Hilda) Frane of Abbotsford; and four sons, Arthur of Colby, Walter of West Allis, Ervin of Milwaukee and Raymond of Minneapolis.  Also surviving her are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  One son, Arnold, preceded her in death in infancy, and an only sister is also deceased.
