Elfert, Johanna (8 FEB 1869 - 27 APR 1962)

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph Elfert, 93, who died at the Bethel Convalescent Home at Arpin Friday morning, were held Monday afternoon.  The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home until noon when it was taken to Christ Lutheran Church, where services were held at 2 o’clock with the Rev. F. H. Sprengler officiating.

 

Miss Dorothy Kieser sand "Asleep in Jesus" and "Just as I Am."  Herbert Juneau was the organist.

 

Pallbearers for the interment, which was made in the Knowlton Cemetery, were Albert Busse, Ole Hanson, G. G. Kieser, Ben Merwin, Fred Mueller and Nedry Sterling.

 

The former Johanna Moldenhauer was born in Germany on Feb. 8, 1869, and came to the United States in 1871 with her parents, who settled in Detroit, Mich.  Later she came to Knowlton where she was married to William Schwartz.  After his death, when moved to Ogema and was married there to Herman John.  In 1919, she and Joseph Elfert were married at Mosinee.  They moved to Abbotsford, where he died in February 1948.

 

Mrs. Elfert continued to live here until three years ago, when she became a resident of the Bethel Convalescent Home at Arpin.

 

Surviving her are 13 children: Mrs. Laura Helm, Minneapolis; William Schwartz, De Pere; Alvin John, Abbotsford; Theodore John, Wauwatosa; Arthur John, Mrs. Henry (Lydia) Oman and Mrs. Cora McLaren, all of Santa Ana, Calif.; Frank Elfert and Mrs. Augusta Kramer, Faribault, Minn.; Mrs. Clara Moorhouse and Mrs. Mary Miller, Mora, Minn.; Mrs. Margaret Bonn, Detroit; and Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Weber, Dorchester.

 

Grandchildren and grandchildren also survive.
