Miss Virginia Rose Apfelbeck and David Allan Cook exchanged marriage vows before a nuptial high mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, Saturday, April 28, 1962.  The Rev. John B. Pinion was celebrant at the 11 o’clock mass, at which the children’s choir sang.  Mrs. Alois Gabriel was the organist and William Gries sang "Panis Angelicus" by Franck, and "Ave Maria" by Schubert.

 

Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Apfelbeck of Abbotsford and Mr. and Mrs. Roderick L. Cook of Colby.

 

The bride was attired in a gown of white silk peau de soi with embroidered Alencon lace appliques and a full circular chapel train.  The molded bodice was cut to a V at the center of the waistline and was set off with a double flat bow.  Self-material buttons closed the long tapered sleeves.  Sequin trimmed lace outline the bateau neckline and was repeated in the shirred hemline of the bouffant skirt.

 

A dainty pill box with a crown of Alencon lace and pleated peau de soi trimmed with seed pearls secured her veil of English illusion.

 

She wore a matching necklace and earring set of tiny sterling silver engraved hearts set in cultured pearls.

 

The bridal bouquet was centered with a large white orchid with a lavender lip surrounded by light pink garnet roses and stephanotis intertwined with ivy.

 

Attending the bride as maid of honor was Miss Pearl Apfelbeck; Miss Catherine Steinwand of Delavan, a cousin of the groom; Miss Janice Schnelle of Marshfield and Miss Sharon Baumgartner of Monroe, friends of the bride, were bridesmaids.

 

They wore identical ballerina length frocks made with purple chiffon velvet bodices, scoop necklines and three-quarter length sleeves.  The bell shaped skirts of lilac satin had un-pressed pleats and a wide envelope trimmed with dainty bows at the side set off the (some words unreadable).

 

The pink illusion veils were attached to headpieces of lilac satin flat bowclip hands with rolled petal motifs at the side, tipped with pearls.

 

They wore purple shoes and white gloves, and carried bouquets of pink garnet roses and white feathered carnations placed on white lace  (unreadable). The form of corsages, and worn as corsages at the evening festivities.  Matching pearl necklaces and earrings, gifts from the bride, completed their ensembles.

 

Michael Cook of Colby was the best man for his brother.  Leo Apfelbeck, a cousin of the bride, Gary Cook, a brother of the groom, and Jerry Brehm, a friend of the groom, all of Colby, completed the bridal party.

 

The mothers of the bridal couple both wore champagne beige sheath dresses with yellow and beige accessories.  Their corsages were made of yellow cymbidium orchids and white feathered carnations.

 

Festivities of the day include a dinner at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Hall at Abbotsford, a reception at the Abbotsford Village Hall, and a dance at the Sportsmen’s Park in the evening.

 

Mrs. Clara Flemming and Mrs. M. Greaser presided at the afternoon reception.

 

The bride is a senior student at Wis. State College at Whitewater and the groom is a senior at River Falls.  After graduation, the couple will tour the western states and visit the World’s Fair.  After July 15, they will make their home at Ames, Ia.

 

The bride, who will receive her bachelor of education degree in June, is affiliated with the honorary education fraternities of Pi Omega Pi and Kappa Delta Pi, and will be teaching business education.

 

Her husband will receive a bachelor of science degree in agricultural science and has been granted a graduate research assistantship at Iowa State University to begin work on an advanced degree.  He is also associated with Kappa Delta Pi, honorary education organization.

 

Guests at the wedding came from Shawano, Marathon, Loyal, Antigo, Owen, Stetsonville, Milwaukee, Monroe, Whitewater, River Falls, Abbotsford, Colby, Madison, spencer, Dorchester, Minneapolis and Chicago.
