Himes, Leona D. (20 MAR 1915 - 23 MAR 2011)


OWEN -- Leona D. Himes, 96, of Owen, passed away March 23, 2011, at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.


Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2011, at Withee Methodist Church in Withee. The Rev. Linda Schearer will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the church in Withee. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Withee.


Leona was born March 20, 1915, to Henry and Emma (Awe) Burmester in Longwood. She attended school at Poppy Grade School in the town of Longwood. Leona was joined in marriage to Lester Himes on Oct. 17, 1936. The two of them bought a farm in the town of Longwood, and that is where they raised their children.


Leona was an active member of Withee Methodist Church and secretary and treasurer of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Helping Hands Homemakers Club. She enjoyed crocheting, going to the cabin and fishing on Sackets Lake, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.


She is lovingly survived by her children, Leslie Himes of Owen, Nancy (Curt) Garrett of Owen and Douglas (Ellen) Himes of Sarasota, Fla.; her grandchildren, Robert Garrett, Loralee Garrett-Petersen, Jeanette Himes and Joylene (Ozzie) Agramonte. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Michael Petersen, Kimberly Olson, Stephanie Petersen, Trinity Petersen and Ian Agramonte; her great-great-granddaughter, Kabalella Olson; and her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burmester and Ruth Himes.


Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; her brother, George Burmester; and sister, Elma Bower.
