Strathmann, Irene A. (Dommer) (November 10, 1928 - February 22, 2011)


Irene A. Strathmann, age 82, of Colby, passed away February 22, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.


Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Burial will follow at Colby Memorial Cemetery in Colby. A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby on Friday, February 25, 2011, with a Ladies Auxiliary Prayer Service at 7 p.m., and visitation will also take place at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.


Irene was born November 10, 1928, to Fred and Ida (Kuester) Dommer in Riplinger.

 

She is a graduate of Marshfield High School. Irene was joined in marriage to Harold Strathmann on June 29, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer.

 

Irene was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby as a member of the Sewing Circle and Church Choir. She was also a reader and a greeter at the church. She was a charter member and past president of Colby VFW 2227 Auxiliary where she was a district color bearer and present chaplain. Irene volunteered at the Colonial Center in Colby for monthly bingo, and was active in the community. She was recognized by the Colby Chamber of Commerce as "Citizen of the Year" in 2009.


She is lovingly survived by her son, David (Michelle) Strathmann of Colby; her granddaughters, Kimberly Strathmann of Colby, Melissa Strathmann of Colby, Lynette Strathmann of Stratford, and Nadine (Adam) Molitor of Abbotsford; her great-grandchildren, Courtney Williams, Reese Molitor, Derek Williams, and Aden Hanson.

 

Irene is further survived by her sisters, Norma Fauset of Calif., and Marie Dearden of Okla.; her brother, Milton (Darlene) Dommer of Marshfield; brother-in-laws, Arnold Strathmann of Colby and Edward (Ila) Strathmann of Colby; and sister-in-law, Agnes Dommer of Spencer.


Irene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her brothers, Russell Halford, Ira Halford, Harold Dommer, and Orville Dommer; and her sister, Grace Zamborini.


In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established at a later date.


The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
