Horton, Victor H. (1 March 1875 - 8 January 1962)

 

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home for Victor H. Horton, 86, Rt. 2 Neillsville, who died here Monday. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey of the United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. Horton was born March 1, 1875, in Steuben County, N. Y.  He was the son of the late Charles M. and Olive M. (DePue) Horton, who came to Clark County in 1882 and located in the Town of Levis.  Mr. Horton attended rural schools of Levis and Neillsville High School.

 

On May 27, 1896, he was married to  the former Adeline Bremen, who died in 1939.  Following their marriage they built a set of farm buildings which later burned. They rebuilt soon after the fire and Mr. Horton lived there until his retirement in 1941.  He served as Levis town assessor for 25 years.

 

Mr. Horton is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vivian (Floyd) Hagie of Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Emily Schilling of Altoona; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Victor H. Horton, 86, who died here, January 8.  The Rev. Frank B. Harcey of the United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Ray Kutsche, Elmer Buddenhagen, Frank Dobes, Ernest Ulrich, Charles Neff, Sr., and Charles Havlicek, Sr.

 

Two Hymns, "In the Garden" and "Nearer still Nearer", were sung by Mrs. Heron Van  Gorden, accompanied by Mrs. J. Grether.

 

Among those from out of town who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hagie and family, Oshkosh; Mrs. C. Schilling, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schleeirtz, Mr. and Mrs. David Planert, Leland Schilling and Mrs. William Schleeirtz, Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Horton, Eau Claire; Mrs. Ina Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Roger C. Adams, Soldiers Grove; Mrs. Mae Lee and Alvin Lee, Gays Mills; Mrs. Steve Kubaskie, Miss Daisy Stevens, Ernest Stevens, Humbird; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McKivitt, Kip Schultz, Mr. and Mrs. John McKivitt, Merrillan.
