Verhulst, Alice (08 APR 1930-14 APR 2011)

 

Alice M. Verhulst, 81, Fort Atkinson, formerly of Greenwood, died on Thursday, April 14, 2011. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood. Rev. Curt Rohland will officiate. Inurnment will take place in the Greenwood City Cemetery.

 

Alice Myrtle Franz was born on April 8, 1930, in Sidney, Mont., to Otto and Myrtle (nee Obergfell) Franz. The family moved to the greenwood area when Alice was in high school. She was a member of the Greenwood High School graduating class of 1949. She married Lyle A. Verhuist on July 9, 1949, at United Lutheran Church, Greenwood. They lived in the town of Beaver and farmed until 1987. She was very involved with community activities, including Beaver Center 4-H leader and the Clark County Homemakers. She had many interests, but especially loved square dancing, cards, cake decorating, and church activities.

 

Survivors include six children, Linda (Monte) Haugland, Montrose, Colo., Judi (Carl) Hoeppner, Watertown, Arlene (Michael) Harris, Holmen, Arvin (Karen) Verhulst, Loyal, Donna (Tim) Milz, Loyal, and Janice Verhulst, Fort Atkinson; 18 grandchildren, Jeff Haugland, Rachal (Matt) Walsh, Kevin Haugland, Kurt Haugland, Seth (Shannon) Hoeppner, Bethany (Chris) Irish, Aaron (Michelle) Hoeppner, Nathan Hoeppner, Heather (Fiance Andy Foley) Harris, Nick (Crystal Spaulding) Harris, Jason (Becky) Verhulst, Shawn Verhulst, Michael (Pam) Verhulst, Adam Verhulst, Brenda (Gary) Lindner, Jennifer (Joe) Luchterhand, Joe Milz and Jay Milz; 14 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Samantha, Regan, Levi, Tysen, Ross, Dane, Jakob, Kennedy, Jackson, Caylie, Brady, Keely and Lucas; two brothers, Paul Frz=anz, Arizona and Elk Mound, and Doug (Joyce) Franz, Mesa Ariz.; one sister, Virginia (Dick) Acker, Greenwood; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lyle, on Jan. 22, 2009; her parents; an infant sister, Alvina; and a sister-in-law, Eula Franz.
