Raatz, Verna (10 OCT 1959)

The Rev. H.A. Timmerman officiated at the wedding of Miss Verna Raatz and Stanley McCabe in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, South Green Grove, at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Otto Raatz of Owen and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gierke, Kiel.

Baskets of fall flowers decorated the altar as Miss Raatz approached it with her father.  Mrs. Elmer Miessner played the organ and Mrs. Timmerman sang "O Perfect Love."

A brial bouquet of red and white roses were carried by the bride as she appeared in a gown of lace and nylon tulle styled with long sleeves and a V-neckline trimmed with iridescent sequins..  The bouffant skirt was floor length highlighted with a lace peplum edged in scallops over nylon tulle and underskirt of net ruffles.  A cap style headpiece of scalloped lace and pearls with iridescent sequin trim held her fingertip veil of French illusion.

Miss Joann Raatz of Unity was maid of honor and Miss Vera Gierke of Kiel was bridesmaid.  Their attendants were Norman and Marvin Raatz of Norman and Marvin Raatz of Owen.  Edward Raatz, a cousin of the bride, ushered.

Velveteen bodices with short sleeves, scooped neckline and gathered cummerbunds of nylon chiffon over bouffant skirts in ballerina length were worn by the bride’s attendants.  The dresses were in emerald green color with floating back panels on the skirts of matching chiffon.  Feather bandeau hats trimmed with pearls held their veils of silk illusion and they carried floral arrangements of white carnations and yellow chrysanthemums.

Wedding day events consisted of a reception at the bride’s home and a dance at the Atwood Hall.

Mrs. McCabe is a graduate of the Owen-Withee Senior High School.  She and her husband are employed at the Tecumseh Products Co. in New Holstein.  He has served four years in the U.S. Navy.  After a honeymoon through upper Michigan they will reside at 1921 Wisconsin Ave. in New Holstein.
