Gummerson, Arvid (1 MAR 1896 - 6 MAR 1960)

Wednesday afternoon, March 9th, 1960, funeral services were held for Arvid Gummerson who passed away late Sunday afternoon after suffering from a lingering illness.  Death came peacefully at his rural home two miles west of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.).  He had returned home two weeks ago after having been confined as a medical patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield for treatment of cancer of the bones.

The Rev. Karl G. Wilkman, pastor of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Owen, officiated at the final rites with interment being made at Riverside Cemetery.  Friends serving as pallbearers were Fred Nystrom, George Wnukowski, John Nissula Jr., Milton Seaman, Clifford Hakola and Art Laine.  Carrying the floral offerings were Mesdames Eva Buss, George Wnukowski, Lily Kile, and John Nissula Jr.

The deceased, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gummerson Sr., was born at Amberg, Wis. on March 1, 1896, being 62 years and 5 days of age at the time of his passing to the eternal being.

When he was about 15 years of age he accompanied his parents to the Town of Reseburg, where they settled on a farm.  For the past 47 years he had made farming his chief vocation and spent all of that time developing the home place where he lived of late years with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Karye.

Mr. Gummerson never married.

His passing is mourned by his sister, Mrs. Frank (Lena) Karye, route 2, Greenwood; one brother, John of Owen; a niece, Shirley Karye of Wausau; and three nephews, John (Jack) and James Gummerson of Owen, and Charles Gummerson of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida, in 1916, and a brother, Matt, in 1934.
