Thorpe, Albert (1876? - 10 FEB 1960)

From Mrs. Eino Backe, formerly of Owen and now of Milwaukee, comes word of the death of a former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.)  resident who may be remembered by some of the few remaining old-timers who lived here during the lumbering era.

Albert Thorp, 83, of 5211 Shore acres Rd., Madison, died Wednesday of last week at a Madison hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Thorpe had been a Madison resident since 1933, when he retired as an employee of the Stoughton Wagon Works.  He was born in Norway and came to the United States when he was 20 years old, settling in Owen.  In 1917 he moved to Stoughton.

He was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Free Church at Stoughton.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Claude (Christina) Anderson, Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. James (Olga) Everson, Luck, Wis.; Mrs. Peter (Margaret) Sagos, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Maxwell (Jennie) Hellum, Stoughton, Wis., and Mrs. Raymond (Evelyn) Geraldson, Park Ridge, Ill.; four sons, Carl, 413 W. Wilson St., Madison; Norman, Stoughton; Garfield, 5211 Shore Acres Rd., Madison, and Harold, Edgerton; three brothers and one sister, 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

(Additional Note)

Albert was my grandfather and lived with us after retiring from Stoughton Wagon Works. He was born August 22, 1876 in Fredrikstad, Norway and died February 10, 1960.

Regards,
Carolyn
